Osteoporosis is a condition that weakens the bones to the point that they can fracture from mild stresses, falling and bending over, or even coughing. The condition affects both men and women alike, but the elderly especially women are the ones who are at a higher risk of being affected. However, there has been a rise in the number of premenopausal women who have been affected by Osteoporosis.
The increase in the number of young women being affected with the condition is attributed to a low bone density that comes from some of these women restricting themselves from certain foods in order to lose weight, as well as pregnancy. Developing babies in the womb requires a lot of calcium during the first few months for bone development. During breastfeeding young mothers may also develop osteoporosis, however, this is very rare and the affected women recover immediately they stop breastfeeding.
Some of the symptoms that are synonymous with osteoporosis include back pains that may be as a result of a fractured or collapsed vertebra, a stooped posture, loss of height over time, and much more. This is not a death sentence though, pregnant, breastfeeding, and pre-menopausal women are able to keep their bones healthy.
Some of the activities that young mothers can indulge in to achieve this include maintaining the right amount of calcium in the body during pregnancy. Young mothers are advised to increase their intake of calcium-rich foods when they are pregnant to satisfy the body’s increased demand of the same. Exercising under expert advice is also very useful for young mothers. This is because the increased activity takes care of backaches, promotes muscle tone, constipation, bloating, and much more. Finally, maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Smoking and the consumption of alcohol is known to be bad for bones, therefore, avoiding their usage lowers the risk of bone loss and osteoporosis in young mothers.
