A healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Almost every day the internet or tabloids are filled with content that revolves around the word LIFESTYLE. Its pace, implications, fitness trends and a plethora of ideas and inspirations from celebrities. The term lifestyle is very individualistic and our day to day choices and habits influence the way our body responds to it. It is our prerogative whether we decide to change the course of habits and maintain vitality or fall prey to health conditions. Again these choices depend on our family set-up, profession, surroundings and mental orientation. It is said that it takes 21 days for a person to develop a habit for lifetime.

Here we list certain health tips that more or less apply to all of us and if followed with commitment you will definitely observe a positive change in your mental and physical well-being.

  1. Breakfast is a must
The first thing after you wake up is grab a glass of warm water with 2-3 drops of lemon juice. This will awaken your body and charge the metabolism. Fix a breakfast time between 7-8am or within the first hour of waking up and make it healthy and nutritious. It is advisable not to consume coffee or tea on an empty stomach. Begin with a fruit or vegetable juice followed by main breakfast.
  2. Eat well
Try to cover all nutrients through meals. Fill your plate with variety of fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, delicious curries, rice preparations, homemade desserts and salads. People who diet do not realize that carbohydrates give energy and are found in foods like fruits, grains, bread, and dairy products. It is equally important as proteins, minerals and vitamins. Our cells, organs and tissues need water all the time to be able to function properly. Keeping our body well-hydrated is imperative for a healthy metabolism and other body functions.
  3. Cut out processed foods
Processed food lacks nutrition and contains preservatives that harm the body. Learn to cook atleast basic meals. Cooking allows you to control what you consume. Learn easy nutritious recipes and buy fresh ingredients.
  4. Cut the screen time
Our life has begun to revolve around the desktops at office, cell phones, tabs and televisions. This occupies so much of our time that we are barely get quality time with ourselves or family. Firstly it makes us sedentary and second the virtual world makes us drift away from real world and its emotions, happiness and moments. It messes with our sleeping patterns and gets us addicted to multi-tasking. Before these devices control our life cut them out for a while. Take time to just chat with friends and family, read, listen to music or just laugh aloud over trivia.
  5. Mindfulness
This concept might sound complicated but it is the simplest form of practice. It means focusing on immediate or current action. Like, while eating focus on the every morsel and the burst of flavours, taste and aroma. Same applies to all activities we perform. Or at some point just sit and unwind by focusing only on the sounds, music, breath and physical sensation in your body. Let the mesh of thought be aside for a while. This is a very easy technique to reduce stress, anxiety and enhance focus.
  6. Sleep well
Our body performs crucial functions while we sleep. The brain is at rest and the neuron are developed, the liver detoxifies and the muscles relax. It is always recommended that you hit the bed as early as possible and wake up early too.
  7. Stay active
There is no substitute for exercise and physical activities to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Brisk walks, run, swimming, cycling, gym cardio, strength building workout, yoga, aerobics, Zumba, pilates, cross-fit or just a regular 30 min walk in the open; you can pick and combine any of these as per your time and health needs.
  8. Organize and declutter
It is difficult to live happy and healthy in a cluttered home. Clutter creates confusion and we tend to procrastinate activities. Say you cannot find your running shoes or the badminton racket, you sure will escape that activity.
  9. Shut out negativity
Thoughts control our hormones, blood pressure and heart functions. Negative thought are poison for our system. Optimistic attitude and positive thoughts wire our system for a happy mood and the body responds accordingly.
  10. Get a regular check-up
This is to eliminate any possibility for diseases that can arise due to deficiencies or unhealthy deposits like cholesterol. Get a full body check-up atleast once a year for the family.
