Beat the Heat with the tips on how to stay healthy

Water Intake

Body losses water due to sweating in heat, therefore you are required to replenish the same amount of water and even additional, to avoid the risk of getting dehydrated. Intake of usual 5-6 litres of water keeps you hydrated within. A well hydrated body keeps the internal functioning smooth and healthy and ascertains that all important body processes take place at optimum rates. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, soda or any other heavy or unhealthy drinks.

Avoid Sun

Until really urgent avoid going into Sun. Only go out when you don’t have a choice. Every time you move out in Sun, the body temperature raises and which internally impacts the body functioning and health. When moving out in Sun, make sure you are properly covered and wearing sunscreen. This will help you with the heat and also will avoid the harmful effects of Sun on your skin. During the hot season, you should usually be wearing sunscreen even when you are not exposed directly to sunlight, because it is strong protection.

Prefer light & loose clothing

Heavy and tight cloths suffocate the skin and hamper perspiration. Wear light & loose cloths to keep your body cool and skin breathing when it is hot. Such clothing allows your body to lose the heat generated from within easily. Also such clothing will give you comfort and ease. Besides prefer clothing of light colour and they are bad conductors of Heat, hence will contribute to keep you cool.

Home Cool Home

Make your home the coolest place possible. Use an energy efficient air condition to cool the air inside your home. Avoid heat entering the home using blinds, shades and curtains. Keep your AC filter clean at all the times to prevent dust collection that might block the air flow.

Belly Cool, Body Cool

Eating larger or heavier meals in summers drastically increase the body temperature. It even worsens when such a meal is hot also. Prefer lighter and nutritious food. Go for meals that are smaller but fuller and keeps your belly light and cool. Hence not much digestion will be required nor will body generate extra heat within. Try fruits, vegetables, shakes, milk products, fresh salads, etc.

Exercise but not outdoor

Fitness is important in any season and exercising contributes to keep you healthy. However, you should not work out outside when it’s hot. In fact, it is advisable to go low intensity workouts. As intensive workouts will lead to more heat generation and discomfort within the body. Try indoor work outs and in cool areas. This will help you keep your body temperature within the right limits that will not harm you also.
