High Blood Pressure

Causes of high blood pressure and five foods for people with high blood pressure

The heart pumps blood through the arteries to the rest of the body. The blood is pumped with a lot of force and therefore creating more pressure along the arteries. In light of this, it is important to consult a medical technician constantly to check your blood pressure. Hypertension is very risky because the heart is forced to pump blood at a very high force and speed.

Keeping that in mind, you may develop heart failure and the hardening of arteries. Some of the causes of high blood pressure include the thickening of blood vessel and clotting of blood. It is essential that you take a healthy balanced diet in order to avoid hypertension. High blood pressure might be caused by the following factors:

Smoking- People who smoke regularly are highly exposed to hypertension and also heart failure. Tobacco contains nicotine which plays a very destructive role in narrowing the arteries. This often serves to increase the level of blood pressure in the arteries. However, it is important to quit smoking because damage to the blood vessels can be prevented or reversed.

Obesity- If you have excessive weight, the body often requires more supply of nutrients and oxygen. In response to this factor, the heart will pump blood at a faster rate thus causing a lot of pressure on arterial walls. It is therefore important to engage in regular physical activities so as to maintain a good body weight.

Stress- stress can lead to both psychological and emotional problems. The body produces hormones when stressed which may lead to high blood pressure. In light of this, the blood pressure might rise vigorously and therefore leading to hypertension. The hormones released might also damage arteries and cause heart problems.

High alcohol intake- Drinking too much alcohol might lead to hypertension. Alcohol contains too much calories which causes drastic weight gain. In light of this, the body is forced to pump blood at a faster rate which is not ideal for the heart.

Eating too much salt- Increased salt intake into the body hinders proper functioning of the kidney. Salt contains sodium and this reduces the ability of the kidney to excrete water. The Failure of this organ results to hypertension due to increased and accumulation of fluids and too much strain of the arteries.

The following are foods which help in reducing high blood pressure:

Bananas- Bananas contain fiber and potassium. Potassium plays a very vital role in preventing high blood pressure. It is very crucial that you lower the amount of sodium intake and increase potassium intake. Potassium often counter balances the harmful effect of sodium.

Avocados- Another source of potassium is avocados and you can always include them in your daily diet. Potassium helps to regulate the amount of salt in the body and also allows the kidney to function more effectively. It is imperative that you include avocados as part of your diet to avoid hypertension.

Tomato- Tomatoes can come in handy for people with hypertension. Tomato contains a substance called lycopene which helps in reducing high blood pressure.

Yoghurt- Over a period of time non- fat yoghurt has been known to help people with hypertension. In light of this, you should consider drinking yoghurts more often.

Apples- They contain large amounts of natural potassium. With this in mind, you should include apples in your diet. With potassium intake, you will counter balance the level of sodium in the body. Low levels of sodium in your body will reduce hypertension.

Carrot- The fruit contains a lot of alkaline elements which help in blood cleansing. Carrot contains antioxidants which help in lowering the sodium content in the kidney. With this in mind, the kidney will function effectively and therefore blood vessels are not strained. With the vessel’s pumping blood at a normal force, hypertension is avoided.

High blood pressure is a very risky health condition. Keeping this in mind, you should focus towards ensuring the body pumps blood at a normal rate. With the above mentioned foods you should reduce hypertension easily. Make sure you consume healthy foods with low sodium but high potassium content. It is also important to visit a health profession to check your blood pressure more often.
